You know you're obsessed with Escaflowne when...
... you start combining that obsession with whatever your current activity happens to be. In my case, ballooning.
This week is the Kodak Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, and I volunteered to be chase crew. :) It's great fun - get up reeeeally early in the morning, go out to the balloon field, freeze your butt off while you wait to see if you can actually fly that day, eat breakfast burritos and drink lotsa coffee, laugh at the people from out of state whose gastrointestinal systems aren't used to breakfast burritos, warm up around the propane burners... and then if it's not too windy and the freakin' ceiling's not too low (c'mon, a little help here?!), you set up the balloon and launch when the zebra says so, climb in the back of the chase truck and freeze some more as you go down the highway in pursuit of the balloon, find the balloon when it lands and pack it up, then go back to the field for the party. It's great!!!!! Balloonists are probably the only people who can really get away with drinking before noon. :)
Okay, here's the obsessive part. Dilandau-sama is the Monthly Anime Villain for October. That means fanart, big time. ^_^ So I got this (rather frightening) idea... of Dilandau-sama as a balloon pilot. Think about it - flying, powerful propane burner, high-wind landings, that burner, and... well, he'd have waaaaaaay too much fun with the burner. ^_^;; And of course, the Dragonslayers would be his chase crew.
Dilandau: *FWOOSH (fires the burner)* Hehheh... moero... *FWOOOOOOOOOSH*
Chesta: Ano... Dilandau-sama... aren't you getting it a little too hot?
Dilandau: *SLAPS Chesta* BAKA! I know what I'm doing!!
Gatti: *sweatdrop* Wow... look at the pyrometer...
The balloon takes off, rather like a rocket, dragging Dalet, Guimel, and Viole along - all holding onto the crown line for dear life...
Viole: Ya-hooooooo!!!!
Chesta: Ye gods... look at 'em go. Anyone left? Into the chase truck!
Dilandau: MuahahahaHAHAHAHA!!!! *FWOOOOOOSH*
*sweatdrop* Oooo-kay, so maybe it's not such a good idea. But it'll make for great fanart.
On the other hand, I've been entertaining the idea of becoming a pilot myself in the back of my mind for several years now. ^_^ And "Alseides" would be a great name for a balloon, ne? (No flight mode special shape, though. That would just be frightening...) I can just imagine... a nice blue/firey red gradient pattern on the envelope, nifty artwork on the side of the chase vehicle, crew jackets that look like the Dragonslayers' armor (no sharp pointy things on the pilot's shoulders, though - keep the edges rounded so you don't damage the balloon), lots of fun making appearances at anime conventions, and of course, really cool balloon pins. *grin*
