Yay! I got out of abq for a few days and am in phoenix for the nascar race at PIR - it's the official father-daughter bonding thing Dad and I do together. Mom and I drove over thursday night after work, spent the night in flagstaff... the super 8 motel there did not have a non-smoking lobby, much to our consternation... the room did, however, have a very nice shower - the one redeeming factor. ^_^;;
Mom went out to the track with us on Friday - it wasn't as crowded and smoky then. qualifying was fun, shopping was great fun (!) and the sw tour race was pretty good, too. :)
Pontiac had this nifty deal where they'd take your pic with one of the cars with a digital camera (kodak dc290, yes, i noticed!) and put it up so you can retrieve it on the web... so here's mine, with Ken Schrader's #36 M&M's car. *grin* Ummm... eventually i'll scan the pics I've taken with other ppl's cars... really i will... ^_^
My sinuses seem to not like phoenix... fortunately we brought our own 505 southwestern green chile sauce! *grin*
Yesterday Dad and I went to the Busch race - it was kinda boring, only one caution and Jeff Burton led most of the way, and as several people said "nobody seemed to want to pass each other" ... I think I slept thru some of it - the repetitive sounds of cars going around the track, muted slightly by big clunky headphones with race commentary, are rather soothing, really... *g*
Today's race was much better! :) lots of passing, several good drivers making their way up from the back of the field, a few cautions to mix things up... poor Ricky Rudd, though... he was leading with about 20 laps to go, hadn't won a race all season (though he'd been consistently good), and someone got into trouble in turn 3 ahead of him and collected him. :P darnit. and my man, Dale Jr., had trouble in the pits - his crew mixed up his tires on their first pitstop, and he lost two laps coming in to fix that... had a great car all day, though, and if not for that snafu would have been in serious contention for the lead. *sigh* And though Mark Martin tried a nice bit of strategy at the end, Jeff Burton won this one, too. I guess it was just his weekend! ^_^
So anyway, we get to take all day tomorrow to drive back - which means mom and i get to hit the factory stores on the way. *grin*
