Well... I never would have guessed that this evening would end like it did...

About a month ago, Susie from the Women's Chorus called to ask if I'd be willing to be the title character for this song they were doing, "Mrs. Harold Righteousbomber" (or "Righteousbloomer") - basically an obnoxious lady talking indignantly on the phone about how there was a lesbian - A Lesbian! - working in the school, teaching conflict resolution, she must be breaking rules, etcetera, etcetera... and then she gets told off in the second half of the song. It's highly amusing... apparently especially so when I'm up there in a frumpy outfit overacting and getting all miffed. *snicker* Yeah, I rarely pass up the chance to make a fool of myself in front of large numbers of people I don't know, so I said "Sure!"

So Monday night I showed up at rehearsal to find out exactly what they wanted me to do for that song. We went over it, I made everyone crack up with my overdramatic silliness... and then as I was about to leave, someone said "Well, we have this other song that we need percussion on - Elya, you have a drum, don't you?" "Uhhh... sure..." ...which is how I ended up playing the conga on "The Friendly Beasts".

Friday night I went to dress rehearsal after work thinking this won't take long, I'll pick up the gamers afterward only a little later than usual... What I didn't realize is that "Missus Harold" doesn't go on until well into the second half of the program. ^_^;;; And of course, they rehearse the show in order - leaving plenty of time to come up with more things that Elya could do! When George started talking about how she almost had the emcee notes for the second half written, but they needed someone to read them, preferably someone not in the chorus, I knew who they were all looking at and I dove behind the row of seats in front of me to hide. I got the part. Hehheh. I actually rather enjoy public speaking like that, when I have a script. ^_^ Then... the song after "Missus Harold" was "Last Night on the Back Porch" performed by a "boardershop quartet" - so named because it was made up of the four members of the chorus board of directors. -_-;;; They had illustration cards for various... locales... and needed someone to hold them up and do the Vanna White thing. Yup, you guessed it. ^_^ Now we were getting complicated - I'd have to do quick costume changes into and out of Missus Harold's outfit. It wouldn't do for her to be holding up those cards. *giggle*

I lost count of how many people asked me if I'd be coming back to sing with the chorus next season. I joked that I'd better - it'd be less work!

I will go back, though. Taking a break from the chorus was good, but I do miss singing with them. And they sounded so good at rehearsal, and in concert! I was delightfully surprised at how much their sound had improved to my ears - maybe we were that good before, and I just needed to get some distance to hear it, but they were wonderful! The concert went very well, the transitions were smooth, the audience loved the show. ^_^

If I were an arrogant bastard like Sakuya from Kaikan Phrase, I'd say that this was their audition to see if they were worthy of me coming back to sing with them (and they passed!), but I'm not an arrogant bastard like Sakuya. *giggle* What is it with us vocalists? *snicker*

Besides, those gals - mostly a bunch of older lesbians with great senses of humor - are a lot of fun. After the concert we went to Sadie's for overpriced but decent Mexican food (and margaritas!) and somehow the conversation ended up on... Castle Superstore, the Wal-Mart of adult novelties (except for the fact that it's overpriced instead of discount-priced). See, the best way to go to a place like that is with a bunch of giggly friends who will have a splendid time mocking the sheer cheesy porn-ness of such a place. And since they're open until 3 (I was the one who knew this), several of us decided to go on a field trip there after dinner ("field trip" kept getting mis-heard as "feel trip", however). I was appointed the "tour guide" since I seemed to know the most about the place. #^_^#;;;; It was a riot. It didn't help that I had Vanilla stuck in my head the entire time. *gigglefit* They seemed particularly amused by my description of the "Purple Pearl Diver" (including the sound effects for the vibe functions), and we decided that certain settings would be quite useful for helping hit high notes. *ecchi grin*

Hey, I had to make absolutely sure they wouldn't remember me as Mrs. Harold Righteousbloomer. Hehheh.

Oh, another interesting point of the random dinner conversation: one of the songs from the first half was a Hanukkah song called "Ocho Kandelikas", which one woman kept mishearing as "cunnilingus". Between that and "feel trip"... I guess we really do hear what we want to hear, ne? ^_^;;;;;; Someone else joked that that would be a good theme for the next concert...

So now I've got this evil, evil idea for a solo. "Yeah, there's this really great Japanese, um, art song, yeah... it's called 'Vanilla'..." It wouldn't work though - I couldn't get the necessary band together (the song just wouldn't work without those horns and that bass), and it's just a bad, bad idea. Completely inappropriate. Besides, I don't think I'd be able to get through the song without completely cracking up. And I'm certainly not a bishounen and therefore able to get away with it. *rofl*

Cadence: *big silly evil grin*

Oh, I can't wait to see what kind of google searches this entry gets... Oddgoogle-worthy, to be sure. *lol*
